4 die in New Year-eve road accidents

1st  January 2014, Hyderabad

The New Year eve passed off without any major accident in the city and neighbouring Ranga Reddy district. Thanks to the strict vigil maintained by the police in Hyderabad and Cyberabad police only four fatal accidents were reported in the city on Wednesday night. A total of 699 people were caught for drunk driving.

At Chikkadpally, a private employee B. Ramkumar (27) of Kothapet was killed when he rammed his motorcycle into a road divider at RTC crossroads on Wednesday night, the police said. He was returning home after celebrating New Year at his friend’s place at Gandhinagar. “Ramkumar might have lost control over the vehicle resulting in the accident. He died on the spot,” the police said.

In another accident at Ghatkesar, V Srinu (25) of Uppal died after ramming into a mound of mud at Ghatkesar bypass road on Wednesday night. Srinu along with his friend was going to a temple when he rammed into a dump of sandbags and fell down. He sustained serious injuries and died, the police said. His friend Anil is undergoing treatment at Gandhi Hospital.

At Jubilee Hills, a matriculate was killed while his brother sustained serious injuries when an unknown vehicle rammed into them at Jubilee Hills check post on Thursday morning. According to sub inspector Maqsood Ali, the victim, A Suman (15), was going along with his brother Balakrishna when the accident took place.

The family told the police that Suman went to his friend’s place at Road No 3 Banjara Hills to celebrate New Year and stayed there for the night. Balakrishna is undergoing treatment at Osmania General Hospital.

A teenager S. Dhanraj alias Sai of Serilingampally was killed after being hit by an unknown two wheeler at Narsingi service road. Dhanraj along with his friend was walking on the road when the accident took place.

He sustained serious injuries and was shifted to a hospital where doctors declared him brought dead. His friends told the police that they were going to a New Year party but their vehicle developed a snag forcing them to walk. The police are trying to trace the vehicle involved in the accident

Hyderabad also should promote taking cab culture after party so that people who consumed alcohol don’t drive and put life of self and others at risk. For new year special discounts and drivers should be made available by government for safety and protection of its citizen
